What is Deaf Diabetes Can Together?
Deaf Diabetes Can Together is a 12-week diabetes education program delivered directly in American Sign Language (ASL). People in the program meet for 2 hours every week on zoom and will learn many topics, including diabetes basics, heathy eating, safe blood sugar levels, and medications.
Is Deaf Diabetes Can Together Deaf led?
Yes! Deaf Diabetes Can Together is led by trained community health workers who are Deaf native signers that also live with diabetes. The program manager is also a Deaf native signer. There is also clinical support from a CODA (child of a deaf adult) nurse practitioner who signs.

How much does Deaf Diabetes Can Together cost? Does my health insurance need to cover it?
Deaf Diabetes Can Together is free to individuals who participate in the research study. The research study is focused on understanding how Deaf Diabetes Can Together is helping A1C levels (3-month measurement of blood sugar), how people care for their diabetes, and emotional aspects of having diabetes.
We do not bill health insurance.

Can a Deaf or hearing support person, such as a family or friend, attend Deaf Diabetes Can Together with me?
Yes! Deaf Diabetes Can Together prioritizes ASL. However, all content has captions and English voiceover to support hearing individuals too.
Is Deaf Diabetes Can Together available in-person or virtually?
Currently, Deaf Diabetes Can Together is available only virtually. This format helps us efficiently recruit participants and allows individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing from across the nation to join, regardless of their location.
What do I need to join Deaf Diabetes Can Together?
You will need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a reliable internet connection. If you don’t have these, consider using resources available at your local community centers or libraries.
Can I join Deaf Diabetes Can Together if I have pre-diabetes?
